How do you decide which spare parts to keep on hand?

The list of recommended spare parts will depend on the pumping design, the application and factors such as the supplier’s normal lead time when ordering parts, whether the pumping equipment is intended for normal or heavy duty and whether or not there is backup pumping while a unit is running. under maintenance.

The manufacturer can help make recommendations by understanding the typical lead time for wear components and consumables. In the absence of manufacturer recommendations, the following is only a guide to some suggested spare parts for pump units for two selected services.

For export, marine or domestic service where minimal loss of service is essential, a complete replacement pump, rotary assembly or bowl assembly is suggested.

For domestic service handling abrasive or corrosive liquids or where interruption of continuity of service is possible, the following spare parts are recommended:

  • shaft sleeves
  • bearings
  • wear rings
  • packing or mechanical seal
  • gaskets/o-rings
  • mating connectors (if applicable)
  • paddle wheel
